Here’s an assortment of some 40 songs I put up at Youtube.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything for the blog. Recently I found over 100 tapes of my old materials that I recorded on my old Tascam 4-track machines from about ten years ago when I was living in Hollywood, California (the first time). The tapes have been in storage for almost a decade. Among the findings are song demos that are quite good in a lo-fi way. I’ve uncovered demos of early Beach, Confusion, Lies, Guns, and Drugs, Can’t Be Down That Very Long, Creepville, Jazz Tune, some Byrds covers, and other rarities. Currently, I’m going through the tapes and transferring the sounds to digital and then mixing it down. I’ve posted some songs already.

The “Rise” album is a set of songs, that I hope, capture the times in which we live.

At the heart of it all is the message to stay true and be happy amongst the chaos in the world that is often pushed at us through the propaganda lense of the media.

The songs were done in a rough do-it-yourself lo-fi Psychedelic folk-freak way because this is what I do. Some of the songs were rather improvised especially with the lyric.

“Rise Up America” was written just about the time of the G20 summit in Pittsburg in September 2009. It is meant to be a sort of wake up call for Americans and also people around the world. It has already been recorded by an artist in Italy.

Please feel free to record your own version if you wish and post back at Jamendo or elsewhere. I give you permission. Details about song is here:

The album was recorded on my 8-Track Tascam machine in Portland, Oregon, Dallas, Texas, and Sofia, Bulgaria.

Credits:
Jim Guittard: Lead and background vocals, electric lead and rhythm guitars, acoustic 12-string guitar, bass, shakers, percussion, drums, keyboard, and effects.

My wife helped out on the vocal for Roller Coaster Ride.

All music is written by Jim Guittard.

All lyrics are written by Jim Guittard with the exception of “Independence” which the words are adapted from the “Declaration of Independence.”

Mixed, recorded, and edited by myself.

Beach

I look up into the sky
See the clouds and colours all around.
I hear the waves go in and out
See the birds and stars tonight.

Chorus

Going with the rising tide.
Shouldn’t wait till morning time.
Moments pass as I decide.
Shouldn’t wait till morning time.

I tell myself the reason why.
Waters flow and there’s no turning back.
Reaching for the horizon line,
Where it ends has only just begun.

Chorus

Going with the rising tide.
Shouldn’t wait till morning time.
Moments pass as I decide.
Shouldn’t wait till morning time.

Drifting through my open mind,
Ray of light about to shine.

Fight the good fight.
Don’t lose sight.
Walk in faith.

They’re gonna keep talkin’
Trash all the time.
They want to discourage you.

I don’t care
What they say.
I’m gonna keep on going.

Chorus

You can not knock me down.
You can keep talkin’ all your trash all you want.
It’s not gonna bring me down.

Talk all your fear.
The end is not so near.
Why do you act like a stuck deer?

Keep feedin’ your hysteria.
Eats ya like maleria.
And that ain’t so very good.
(I’m tellin’ ya quit it)

Chorus

You can not knock me down.
You can keep talkin’ all your trash all you want.
It’s not gonna bring me down.
You can keep talkin’ all your trash all you want.
It’s not gonna bring me down.

Where’s the hope?
We’ve been taught to believe.
Guess you’ve been washed by the soap.
(That’s right. A lot of brainwashing going around.
Stop watching the stupid tube. I’m tellin’ ya. Quit)

Chorus

You can not knock me down.
You can keep talkin’ all your trash all you want.
It’s not gonna bring me down.
You can keep talkin’ all your trash all you want.
It’s not gonna bring me down.

It’s not your fault
I’m tellin ya.
It’s not your fault.
But they wanna tell it’s your fault.
You’re not
A stupid person.

Here’s a song about keeping the faith while facing extreme diversity and hype. Enjoy!

Here are the lyrics:

“The Sun Shines Today”

Push on through.
You know it ain’t true.
Just keep it up.
Drink from the cup.

No matter what they say,
The sun shines today.
Keep up the lovely art.
Avoid the fiery dart.

Nothing’s very solid.
It’s all a bit spotted.
Your treasure chest may disappear.
It could be very near.

What’s the answer?
Avoid the big cancer.
Do what’s fun.
It has all begun.

Money can’t guide you.
Only what is true.
Live by the wisdom.
This isn’t dumb.

Nothing’s very solid.
It’s all a bit spotted.
Your treasure chest may disappear.
It could be very near.

Push on through.
You know it ain’t true.
Just keep it up.
Drink from the cup.

Nothing’s very solid.
It’s all a bit spotted.
Your treasure chest may disappear.
It could be very near.

Nothing’s very solid.
It’s all a bit spotted.
Your treasure chest may disappear.
It could be very near.

3 1/2 out of 5 Stars

Having accidentally listened to this while a rhythm track was running, I was a tiny bit disappointed that there was no crap drum track.

Then I realised that was churlish. It’s really rather a good excursion into the kind of folk music that would have been made by chainsaw wielding space travellers in 1888, had there been such folk.

It’s musically a lot more competent than I seem to be giving it credit for. The made up on the spot lyrics are better than anything that over-rehearsed Industrial Production Line Talent Shows will ever give you. Imagine the Gidds on the X-Factor. Cannot?

Then this really is the music for you. Especially if you have sense to listen to music to discover things. Such as what things sound like with an accidentally running rhythm track.

Here’s a song I recorded today and I adapted the text of the Declaration of Independence. If you are an American and don’t recognize these words it is clearly sad. I changed it up a little but not much. LET’S TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!!!

Please share this song everywhere.

We hold these truths to be self-evident,
We’re all created equal,
And given by our Creator
certain unalienable rights,

life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

We hold these truths to be self-evident,
We are all created equal,
And given by our Creator
certain unalienable rights,

life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
