Skeksis Netlabel Project, out of Austria, included my song “Beach – Acoustic” as part of their summer-themed compilation for free download. The songs are quite nice and peaceful with optimism. Please take a listen or download it for free here:
Also, please look into Skeksis’ previous compilations. There are 11 others that are all themed differently, all for free download. http://skeksisnetlabel.wordpress.com/
The “Rise” album is a set of songs, that I hope, capture the times in which we live.
At the heart of it all is the message to stay true and be happy amongst the chaos in the world that is often pushed at us through the propaganda lense of the media.
The songs were done in a rough do-it-yourself lo-fi Psychedelic folk-freak way because this is what I do. Some of the songs were rather improvised especially with the lyric.
“Rise Up America” was written just about the time of the G20 summit in Pittsburg in September 2009. It is meant to be a sort of wake up call for Americans and also people around the world. It has already been recorded by an artist in Italy.
The album was recorded on my 8-Track Tascam machine in Portland, Oregon, Dallas, Texas, and Sofia, Bulgaria.
Credits:
Jim Guittard: Lead and background vocals, electric lead and rhythm guitars, acoustic 12-string guitar, bass, shakers, percussion, drums, keyboard, and effects.
My wife helped out on the vocal for Roller Coaster Ride.
All music is written by Jim Guittard.
All lyrics are written by Jim Guittard with the exception of “Independence” which the words are adapted from the “Declaration of Independence.”
Back in late September 2009 I wrote a song called “Rise Up America” and recorded it after seeing all the chaos go down at the G20 summit in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. I made a call for anyone who wanted to record this song to do so and to even change the words to their own country so that it is more personal.
It’s been a little while now but we’ve now got another version and from Italy.
Here are the two songs for Italy and America together:
Here is my original song with video from the G20 Summit:
I recently got an email from an Italian artist simply known as Alex or “d0ct0r” who heard my song and wanted very much to record it and make his own version for Italy. He sent it to me and this is what you are listening to. I like it very much.
Now that Italy is involved with the spirit behind the original song, my call still goes out for others to get involved. It’s up to us to take our world back from fear and destruction. We must rise above fear and anxiety!
Let’s keep this song chain going. It is important to get the spirit of optimism out. Thanks Alex!
Simplistic Psychedelic instrumental I wrote and recorded in Portland, Oregon in April of this year. The video was filmed in Simeonovo, Bulgaria by Katia in July.
Having accidentally listened to this while a rhythm track was running, I was a tiny bit disappointed that there was no crap drum track.
Then I realised that was churlish. It’s really rather a good excursion into the kind of folk music that would have been made by chainsaw wielding space travellers in 1888, had there been such folk.
It’s musically a lot more competent than I seem to be giving it credit for. The made up on the spot lyrics are better than anything that over-rehearsed Industrial Production Line Talent Shows will ever give you. Imagine the Gidds on the X-Factor. Cannot?
Then this really is the music for you. Especially if you have sense to listen to music to discover things. Such as what things sound like with an accidentally running rhythm track.
Here’s a song I recorded today and I adapted the text of the Declaration of Independence. If you are an American and don’t recognize these words it is clearly sad. I changed it up a little but not much. LET’S TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!!!
Please share this song everywhere.

Improvised this lo-fi psychedelic song last night and someone’s phone rang but I kept it going like we should keep America going. America, wake up from your sleep! Download the song and pass around or RE-RECORD yourself.
Share alike. If you’re from another country besides the U.S. please insert your own country in the lyric instead and record it. We really need to work together. This Global Government thing is a bit off.
If you haven’t heard of Jamendo.com then I guess you are really really out of the loop and not aware of the free music phenomenon. I suggest you get over there, immediately and get in on it. As of today, there are 15,287 albums posted there for free downloading. Did you catch me? Free!

Jamison Young
The Golden Dawn
I’m tellin’ ya, get in on this scene. I give you free music; you give me review. It’s “Quid Pro Quo”, ya dig? A free win-win situation. I’d be honored if you’d do this for me. Just sign up, it is free. It’s extremely cool.
My stuff is along the lines of folk-rock, psychedelic, and experimental. I have posted three albums and if you like the Beatles, Bob Dylan and the Byrds you would probably like me.
Here’s my first album I did in 2002 called “California Daze.”
Album description
California Daze was recorded in Hollywood, California by Jim Guittard on his 4-track recorder and later mixed with Adobe Audition 2.0. The songs pay tribute to the birth of the Neo-Psychedelic scene that emerged beginning in 2000 in Silverlake, California with groups such as the Beachwood Sparks, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Quarter After, smallstone, the Warlocks, the Tyde, and the Belle Isle.
Jim Guittard played the shaker, drum machine, and sang all lead and background vocals and had the help of friend Vladimir Maskov for bass. Brian McKay engineered the recording of the Beach the acoustic version. Guittard also played all lead and rhythm guitars. The song Beach is co-written by Jim Guittard and Dominic Campanella of the Quarter After.
The “Swing Tune” and “Jazz Tune” are instrumentals written by Jim while attending the Musicians Institute from 1999 to 2000. Jim plays the lead guitar with session bassist and drummer. On the rhythm guitar is a guy from Brazil named Reginaldo. He was a student with Jim at the school. You can hear the teacher, “Mr. Lupo Groinig” giving a critique after the instrumentals end.
I’m putting up the mp3 source tracks that I recorded to make many of my songs so that anyone can remix or do whatever they want to it. I found a cool website where people can remix other people’s music.
So here’s the site where you can download my source tracks for free of course and create your own thing out of it: ccmixter
I’d be very happy to see what anyone makes out of it. Beware, some of the tracks have sound leakage. I did the best I could to clean it up. I’ll be posting more songs later. Let me know if you have one you’d like to remix that is not up there.
JIM GUITTARD is a 4th Generation Musician and 2nd Generation Writer.
